Schroders London Boat Show 2005
A watersports haven
The Schroders London Boat Show 2005, in association with The Daily Telegraph, is set to bring London's Docklands to life once again this week. The stunning Hydropool marina packed with boats of all shapes and sizes, the redesigned indoor Watersports Arena, the latest dream yachts and cutting edge powerboats as well as dinghies, surf boards and narrow boats will all ensure that visitors from around the world come flooding in.
Building on the phenomenal success of last year's action-packed UK Indoor Windsurfing Championships, 2005 sees the Show hosting a leg of the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) World Tour. Top windsurfers from around the world will all battle it out with stunts, tricks, jumps and racing. Competitors will include Freestyle world champion Ricardo Campello, former Racing, Wave and overall PWA World Champion Kevin Pritchard, three times Brazilian junior champion Kauli Seadi and top Spanish sisters Iba
UKWA contestants will compete in their indoor finals on Thursday 13 January, with top competitors going through to the international competition from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 January. The impressive Watersports Arena will seat over 3,000 spectators. The scientifically re-designed pool has been enhanced for 2005 with state-of-the-art technology. This will ensure that competitors experience a consistent 30 knots of full force wind, generated by 25 giant fans.
Other new additions for 2005 include the first ever British Indoor Wakeboarding Championships. The three-day wakeboarding competition will run from Monday 10 to Wednesday 12 January and will attract the best of British wakeboarders. The pool is also staging the British Canoe Polo Championships from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 January where teams from around the country will be competing to be crowned UK champions.New public coaching sessions are available to visitors who want to learn top tips from windsurfing, wakeboarding and canoeing experts sessions. Visitors will also be able to climb onboard the impressive naval vessel HMS Sutherland, a type 23 frigate. HMS Sutherland has seen service all over the world, from the frozen seas of both the Arctic and the South Atlantic to the tropical heat of the Caribbean and the Far East. The dockside will also have a special feature area called 'London in Steam'.
The fascinating Ocean Racing feature, Full Circle, compares boating of yester year with the modern day. How did sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnson navigate in his 1968 round the world trip? What did he wear and how did he communicate? Discover what life was like on board a ship in the 60's, what sailors ate and what happened when someone got injured. It's a sharp contrast to our modern high tech solutions.
The impressive Waterscape.com Inland Waterways attraction returns in 2005 supported by the Environment Agency and British Waterways, and of course in the heart of the area you'll find a real-ale English country pub, known as the Fox@Waterside.
And lastly, visitors can get a feel of South West beach life by checking out the Beach Huts feature. Four huts have been individually and exclusively designed for the show.
